EXP1: STAIRS SKETCHUP MODEL

My designs for the Staircases, were created by utilising the words 'Accelerate' (Revival Cycles) and 'Carve' (Steinway & Sons) for inspiration.

These were modelled in SketchUp, and textured with Metal (Scratched Iron, Steel and Brushed Brass) and Wood (Polished Wood and Floorboards).

SketchUp Model: Upper Section Staircase (Accelerate - Revival Cycles Design 1)
Chosen Design, due to simplicity and functionality.

Sketchup Model: Upper Section Staircase (Accelerate - Revival Cycles Design 2)
Unusable due to low height, required large amount of landings and treads, ultimately inefficient and wasteful of space.

SketchUp Model: Lower Section Staircase (Carve - Steinway and Sons Design 1)
Avoided due to complicated structure.

SketchUp Model: Lower Section Staircase (Carve - Steinway & Sons Design 2)

EXP1: THREE IMAGES

Image One: Presentation Boards

These presentation boards were one of my assignments from my previous year in the Planning program. The assignment required us to present our observations of different building design elements within the Glebe streetscape, through the use of collaging photographs taken during our field trip. Board 1 on the left aims to highlight the extensive use and inclusion of landscaping in building design, whilst Board 2 on the right juxtaposes old heritage buildings with modern contemporary homes. I feel that the placement, joining and overlapping of photographs in order to create a photo montage, helps to emphasis the common elements within Glebe's streetscape. Although this project is not a significantly creative piece of work, I believe the interpretation of the concept that is conveyed, is a subjective matter that can only be understood if the responder utilises their individual creativity.

Image Two: Chrysler Building

New York City's Chrysler Building is a skyscraper highly renowned for its contemporary and avant grade architectural design. The architect of the Chrysler Building, 'William Van Alen', envisioned a building with a decorative jewel-like glass crown and this is reflected in the use of Art Deco in the building's spire. The use of Art Deco architecture on the building's 'Crown' has allowed it to be one of the most recognised buildings within New York City's skyline, and subsequently a leading example of Art Deco architecture. The Chrysler Building's design also takes influence from Chrysler automobile products, as seen with the building's gargoyles. I believe that the fascination and admiration of the Chrysler Building, stems from its amazing use of Art Deco to not only highlight a building's design, but also to highlight the skyline of New York City.

Image Three: Clarke's Beach, Byron Bay

The above photograph of Clarke's Beach, was taken during my holiday at Byron Bay. If I had to describe the above landscape using one word, I believe I would choose the word 'beauty'. I adore the image of the blue sky with sunlight piercing through the clouds, combining with the calm blue hue of the ocean. These features, combined with the surrounding green of nature, create the ultimate landscape. Images like these, often remind us that although architecturally magnificent buildings and structures are to be wondered, nature also never ceases to amaze.
